CWRU CHIPS (formerly known as CWRU Hacker Fab) is an organization founded by students, where we build our own microfabrication equipment and design semiconductor chips. We're the Case Western Reserve chapter of the international Hacker Fab community, a growing group of university chapters working on building their open-source and affordable fabs. Our organization is open to all students, regardless of major or level of experience. We welcome anyone who's curious about semiconductors and wants to contribute to our efforts!
At CWRU CHIPS, we have weekly general body meetings where we discuss our plans and work on various projects. We have lecture presentations about semiconductor topics and tours of different fabrication facilities on campus. We also actively collaborate with other groups at different universities in the Hacker Fab community. As of now, we've finished our lithostepper and we're currently working on building a magnetron sputtering system and designing a RISC-V microprocessor which we will submit to Tiny Tapeout and have it manufactured on a real chip.
If you want to get involved, feel free to drop by any of our meetings or reach out to us on Discord. This is our weekly schedule for the semester (Spring 2026):
General Body Meetings: Monday at 6 PM in White 616
Magnetron Sputter Team: Monday at 7 PM in White 616
Executive Team Meetings: Thursday at 7 PM on Discord
